The MILE (Music Is Love Exchange) is a network of artists, musicians, and music lovers affecting change in the lives of disadvantaged and underserved children, strengthening families and communities both in the U.S. and abroad.
The MILE will return to Guatemala in 2014 for one week, May 3 through 11. These relief excursions are referred to as THE EXTRA MILE.
THE EXTRA MILE is a week-long excursion to Guatemala, an introduction to service through cultural immersion and short-term relief projects in and around beautiful Lake Atitlan in the Guatemalan highlands. Participants will learn about local Mayan and Guatemalan cultures, customs, and social structure while working together through a variety of simple projects arranged by the MILE to meet the ever-changing needs of the indigenous people. These projects are wide and varied, and may include manual labor.
THE EXTRA MILE is open to the public on a lottery basis. Applications are from the MILE website (www.gomile.com).
Regarding costs for the May 2014 trip - Applications will be due with a $250 refundable deposit by February 1st. If your application is approved, you will be notified by February 15th, at which point your deposit becomes non-refundable. If your application is approved, an additional $500 will be due March 1st, and an additional $500 will be due April 1st. To be clear, the total cost of the trip is $1,250, payable as a charitable donation to the MILE through our partner 501.(c)3 organization Relief Missions Of Louisiana. Please note: airfare to and from Guatemala City is not included, nor are the costs of additional optional excursions available to participants while away from the event property. Travel arrangements to and from Guatemala City must be made separately, to arrive no later than 11:30pm on May 3rd, and departing between 6am and 10pm on May 11th.
